The most challenging live competition in mental health training!
At Sentio, we believe in creating a worldwide therapist training culture where trainees and therapists feel comfortable to experiment, show their mistakes, and get feedback, all in a context that is respectful, compassionate, and even fun! However, in our experience, too many therapists are embarrassed or fearful of showing their work and getting feedback on their mistakes. To help fix this, we are running the Therapist Throwdown - a playful, live competition where trainees and therapists compete with videos of an actor playing a standardized client.
The 2024 Therapist Throwdown Final Round will be held LIVE and IN-PERSON at the American Psychological Association convention August 8-10 in Seattle.
The deadline for registering for the competition is July 1st.

How to register for the 2024 Therapist Throwdown
There are two video prompts below on this page. Each video shows an actor playing a therapy client and the specific therapy “skill criteria” you need to perform in your response to that client.
Watch the video prompts and practice responding as if you are the client’s therapist. You are welcome to practice as many times as you like. You are encouraged to practice with the help of a supervisor/professor or peer serving as a "coach."
When you feel ready, record yourself responding to the video prompts. We recommend this free website for recording. You can also use any other means to create your recordings, such as Zoom or your phone. Create one recording for each video prompt.
Name your recordings with your first and last name, plus the number of the video you are responding to (e.g. “CarlRogers1”).
Submit your recordings via our Therapist Throwdown registration form.
Make sure to submit your videos before the deadline of July 1st!
Our Expert Raters will score your videos, and the top scoring contestants will then advance to the Final Round.
Note: Contestants must be able to attend the APA Convention in Seattle on August 8-10 in order to participate in the 2024 Therapist Throwdown.
